Tax authorities say it too: Taxes collection at risk
There are so many problems with the Tax Administration's ICT systems that the tax collection can be jeopardized. This conclusion draws the Tax Administration itself into an internal evaluation, according to a document that was received by the Volkskrant after appeal to the Public Administration Act (WOB).
Earlier this year, the Tax Investigation Commission also reported that tax collection is at risk, due to problems with the Tax Administration. The committee wrote in a critical report on insufficient knowledge at the summit on tax matters, about organizational problems and ICT problems.
Now it appears that the Internal Revenue Service also indicates that there are major problems. "The continuity of the collection process is not guaranteed", is in the evaluation. The knowledge of the current, often old computer systems is becoming increasingly scarce because people who can work with them can retire or leave with the taxpayer. A large part of the systems do not meet the requirements, but renewal remains.
Millennium bug
The taxis use about six hundred ict systems, which often do not match. Several dozen of them have been labeled 'clean up'. Thus, according to the documents held by the Volkskrant, another system must be "cleaned up" to capture the effects of the millennium bug.
Good results have also been made, such as the pre-filled declaration, which the Dutch taxpayer is leading worldwide. But if the ICT does not work, big problems can arise. As a result, large numbers of taxpayers get wrong letters, incorrect attacks, or mistaken error messages.
There have been problems with the Tax Administration for years, not just with computer systems. Letting go of many employees has major consequences. Due to a very attractive financial arrangement left the very best people. The Secretary of State did not know anything about this arrangement.
NVWA extends list of contaminated eggs
The supermarket industry received a list of contaminated eggs from the NVWA. After that, eggs have been removed from the shelves in a few hundred supermarkets, says branch organization Central Bureau of Food Retailers (CBL). It is estimated that many millions of eggs are in total.
According to the Director of the CBL, all contaminated eggs have disappeared from the supermarkets.
Millions of euros to damage
Roorda says that the supermarkets are on the verge of monitoring the NVWA's messages. "We do not want to take risks. Consumers should be able to trust that safe Dutch eggs are in the Dutch supermarkets."
Supermarkets losses, as a result of the affair, many millions of euros in damage, estimates the CBL. The supermarket wants to claim the damage at the suppliers.
